Kick It Up a Notch

This weekend was a major training weekend! Friday was an active recovery so I did alot of slow easy/ technical climbs and then alot of stretching. Saturday was alot of fun because I got to try out a pair of Muira VS' for a couple hours. I liked them alot and I want them as my next pair of shoes. I warmed up on a 5.10 and then went a flashed a 5.11 that I have been projecting for the last two weeks. I did a couple other top ropes that I have been projecting and got a little bit farther on all of them. Then I went to lead climbing was a really good day. I warmed up on a 5.9 and then completed a new 5.10 with three falls. I am projecting another 5.10 to stick a more that I need to jump for. I worked on alot of 5.10s and 5.11s lead. Most of the 5.10s i was about half way them before I started falling. After awhile I went back to top rope and worked on 5.10+ to 5.12. I completed a 5.10+ and got half way on a 5.12 that I have been working on for two weeks. Sunday was fun but tough. I started off by doing a lifting program which just ate my hands up more than what they were. Climbing I was working on routes that I didn't finish from the competition from last Saturday at the Kenosha YMCA. Instead of trying them top rope I attempted them lead. There is one route I still need to finish, the rest from the comp I have finished. I have uploaded the photos and videos from The competitions last weekend and training at Adventure Rock, Saturday. This coming Saturday will be a lot of fun because I am going to Devil's Lake all day.

Awesome Comp Weekend

This weekend I had two climbing competitions. Friday was at Adventure Rock for Battle of the Ages. There I took 2nd place in my category which was ages 14-19. I went up against three people that were on the 2011 National Team. All of the routes I finished were 5.10s. The whole climbing team went up and everyone did good. When I was given my award Craig (owner of Adventure Rock) promoted the Kenosha YMCA Climbing Wall.  Also he mentioned the fact that I come from such a small gym and have gone so far. It was a good night of climbing for everyone.

Saturday was the climbing competition at the Kenosha YMCA. I competed in the advance division against three people. I took 1st place leading by 3000 points and was the youngest person climbing in the advanced division. All of the routes that I did were 5.10 to 5.12. Three of the routes were lead routes. Normally I can lead climb a 5.10 but finished a 5.10 as my warm up then was two rocks from the top on a 5.12 lead. The final route was a 5.12 also and I got about half way on it. My award for taking first place was a brand new pair of climbing shoes, a gold rope, and my name on our advanced champion harness. my name is the first one to be put on it!! Sunday we had our climbing league which was an active recovery and a major stretching session. During my active recovery I top roped the final route and flashed it like it was nothing. This year I have already improved about 3 grades in my climbing. I am thinking that I will be able to lead climb a 5.12 by the end of February. Monday I helped teach climbing classes and then after classes were all done I was put into an hour long hard climbing program none stop. I completed the final route lead with one fall. Four of the Six routes for the comp were top rope. Monday night I lead climbed all of the routes that I was to climb during the competition. This is gonna be an awesome season of climbing.

Its Still Fun and Games for NOW

This past weekend was pretty cool. Thursday I went to the Y to start my hard climbing training for the season. It was alot of fun!! We did more lead climbing than anything because I still need to work out some things with that before season starts. Friday was the most fun. The team went to Adventure Rock for a training night. While I was there I attempted a 5.10+ lead and got to a point where I needed to jump; and out of 20 times I only stuck it 3 times. In the process of trying to get this hold I fell the other 17 times. Five of the falls were 10ft+ falls (which is a first). That was my main goal for the night to complete that route because it was alot of fun. After we were done climbing I went and did 8 pull-ups to see how my body was feeling. Saturday was kinda funny. Since we went to Adventure Rock the night before I had my climbing with me. My little brother had a baseball game Saturday morning that i watched so I brought my climbing bag along. My super awesome pink chalk bag of a octopus was on the outside of my bag, so every one kept asking what was up with that and what sports I play. After my easy day of climbing I had to create a piece of the Colosseum for a school project. It was pretty cool even more so after we painted it. Sunday started team weight training. I got to help write out the program that we were doing for the day. It was most slow technical movements. Monday was the start of classes at the Y in the rock wall. The first day is fun just hard learning names. Tomorrow we are starting the set up for the competition this Saturday! Hope to see some new faces this year!! This weekend we are having a competition at the YMCA in Kenosha, WI. . This is our third annual  and it going to be alot of fun!!!.Plus I'm going up to Adventure Rock to compete in there battle of the ages on Friday. Also there photos from this past Friday are on my flickr account check them out!! Theres alot of neat pictures!!
